Nobody Can Train A Kitten
So what is the answer Train Cats or not?
Well that’s very true, it’s the owner that
needs to be educated. They need to
know how to understand and control their cat.
Stop The Blood Sport.
Cats are very active and if kept indoors
they don’t get enough stimulation. So clearly when you present
them with a means to exhaust that energy they take it with all four paws and you bleed.
This eagerness can be handled in a safer manner.
Begin by taking a set period that you are going
to help your cat bleed this energy and not your blood. If you can keep you cat busy
for fifteen minutes (sometimes more, sometimes less), then there is a good chance when the session
is up so will the cats energy be up.
During this period use objects that the cat likes to chase and catch.
For example a squeaky toy attached to a string that you can drag around or attach
it with elastic and elevate the other end of the elastic. When the cat pulls
on the toy the elastic gives it that feeling that it is trying to escape.
Using your hand or any part of your body to entertain the cat will only reinforce
the cats will to make you bleed whenever you move and normally without warning.
You must say when the play begins and the cat will tell you when it’s had enough.
Top Cat
It’s hard to tell when cats are fighting. What looks like a fight could be playful ambush.
A quick way to see if it’s a fight or play is to see if they are hurting each other.
If bits of fur and blood are flying it’s a fight.
When two cats are challenging for ”Top cat”,
there is a lot of meowing and hair raising and then one cat will back down. If there isn’t a back down,
it moves into the next stage. The full fight is not very long. The weaker cat will soon make a run for it.
If it is play and both the cats are yours, put a bell around its neck so that it cannot ambush the other cat.
Trimming the nails of a cat sort of helps but then so does pulling its teeth.
Unless the nails are simply too long I wouldn’t cut them.
If they do need cutting, your vet will be able to help you.
Scratch Post
This is another problem that calls for miss direction. Try redirecting the cat’s
attention to something they are allowed to scratch, like a scratch post.
As soon as they show signs of warming up to scratch, place them in front of the scratch pole.
When they finished scratching reward them.
To stop them scratching the furniture, place a sticky pad on that area, they find this unpleasant and will move.
This is when you can present the post and let them have the pleasure of shredding it.
Marking their area
The reason a cat sprays is to mark it area. Unfortunately for us this odor
isn’t pleasant. The easiest way to stop the cat from spraying is by having them spayed or neutered.
This will make them less territorial and therefore have no reason to spray.
Ask your vet for advice before any drastic measures are taken to stop spraying.
If they have sprayed, bi-carb and water will help remove the smell and if you can put up with the smell of raw onion this also helps.
Cat problems take time to handle and unless you know your cat well, you going to have difficulty even getting close to it.
Sometimes, it can be very helpful to ask a third party like your vet for some help and advice.
So if you can do this to cats.
