Having Kittens – You Need To Be Prepared To See A Kitten Die or Lose Some

Unfortunately, death is a part of the cycle of life that we all must face and go through. This is also true when your cat or any pet is giving birth to their young. Although your cat is a very careful conscientious mother and creature, even she knows that the rule (or law as it were) of the wild is that only the fittest and strongest are going to survive. You need to remember that you are likely to see a kitten not make it through the birth process or lose some in the days and weeks after the kittens are born.
You need to be prepared to see a kitten not make it through the birthing process. This is simply something that is part of the cycle of life that we all know about. The problems start to crop up when you start getting attached to those kittens. In this we are referring to loving those kittens as much as you love their mother (and father if you know who he is). This type of emotional attachment is typical when you really love your animal companion; and there is absolutely nothing wrong with this type and depth of love. This is also part of life as well. You need to remember that it is alright to cry when you see a kitten not make it through the birthing process or when you realize that one or more of those precious kittens has been hurt or killed by the neighborhood cats or dogs or other animals.
Along with preparing yourself for this possibility, you need to make sure that your kids understand what is going on and prepare them for this very real possibility as well. It is very well understood that there are certain things that you cannot explain to children that are very, very young; and death is one of those subjects that you are not going to be able to explain that easily. Yes, knowing that your cat is going to be a mother is very exciting, and is just as exciting for your kids as it is for you. What you need to be able to do if one (or more) of those kittens dies while they are being born or shortly afterwards is have your kids help you pray to God for that little kitten’s souls to make it safely back Home to Him and let them know that it is okay to cry about this… and cry with them if you feel like it. They will see then that you are also as affected by this as they are.
All in all any time that a new baby is/babies are born it is a very happy time in your life and the lives of your family. Keeping these simple tips in mind will go a long way, yet we humans seem to forget that Mother Nature has equipped Her creatures to handle (pretty well we think) just about anything that comes their way in their lives.
