Cats have a mind of their own and sometimes training them new cat tricks can be a complete nightmare. You want them to do one thing and they want to do something completely different. You try and bribe them into learning with treats and they stick their noses up and walk away. It can be frustrating and leave you wanting to scream. You have a stubborn cat!

The thing is, there are plenty of cat training tips that you can make good use of to train even the most stubborn of furry friends and patience is the first thing that you need to work on! The more patience you have and the more persistence you show, the quicker the cat will realize that this training business is here to stay.

One of the most useful cat training tips that you will come across is to start training your cat from as young an age as possible, preferably as soon as you get it. The earlier you start training these cat tricks, the more likely the cat is to pick them up and the less likely it is to be a stubborn little critter. However, if you are trying to train an older cat, it can be done but you will need the patience of a saint!

You need to show the cat that you are in control, that you are the master and that you set the rules. If the cat normally has the run of the house, confine him to a few smaller rooms. If he dictates when feeding time is by well-time meows aimed at you, stop feeding him when he says so and start setting specific times to feed him. You need to be in control, after all it is your house and the cat is just a pet!

Once the master-pet relationship has been established, you must then begin to monitor your cat to find out the treats that he finds most irresistible. These will prove to be great in training cat tricks as your cat will not be able to refuse them and therefore will be more eager to please you. The same applies for toys; try and work out his favorite toys and then use these to bribe him. If he doesn’t follow your commands, he does not get the toy. It works in much the same way as you would teach a small child.

At the end of the day, with a little bit of monitoring of your cat and a lot of patience, you will soon be able to make use of the great cat training tips to teach your cat the cat tricks that it needs. Stubborn cats can’t be stubborn forever, especially when you are holding his favorite food under his nose!
