Cat Training Tips – Cat collar training
If your cat is anything like my male cat called Max then you could be coming across a few problems with regards to the cat and a collar. My cat does not really have the need to wear a collar because he is an indoor cat but I like him to where one just in case he ever does decide to leave the home, which although isn’t likely, is still a frequent worry for me.
Cats wear collars for a number of reasons and although the main reason is to stand him aside from the strays, it also contains vital information contained within it in case they ever get lost such as a phone number attached. They can be fluorescent to make sure that they are easily seen at night and can also be a flea repellent collar. If your cat is reluctant to wear the collar, there are a few cat training tips that you may need to make use of to ensure that your cat doesn’t rip its collar off like my little Max has done many times. I have not yet worked out how he has managed to do this as I can only fit two fingers around it, which is the recommended amount of space and he doesn’t ever break it.
Anyway, teaching your cat the various cat tricks such as wearing a collar and not trying to escape from it requires rewarding. This could be in the way of treats that your kitty loves and toys that they enjoy playing with. Kind words, cuddles and petting are also great ways of rewarding your cat and many cat training tips that you find in books or on the internet will show this as well.
To use these cat training tips to teach your cat to get used to the collar, you must first buy yourself a collar that should ideally have a place for an ID tag as well as being fluorescent for outdoor use. Put the collar on the cat after plenty of cuddles and playing and make sure that you can fit two fingers down the side of the collar to make sure the cat has room to move around while wearing it. Once the collar is on, make sure you use kind words and plenty of treats to reward your cat and let him or her get used to it for a little while and then take it off. You should aim to do this daily for a length of time with each wear until it would appear that your cat is happy wearing the collar that you have given him.
